Explained
Proper maintenance of pools and spas requires the killing of all bacteria and algae present in the water. Unpleasant body excretions (sweat, urine and oils) also must be removed.
The most effective method for the removal of such contaminants in pool and spa water is chlorination (chlorine). A constant level of chlorine is essential for effective sanitisation (2-5PPM). Chlorine must be added frequently to achieve a constant level. Chlorine only works effectively when the water pH (scale of alkaline/acidity) level is within a certain range (ideally 7.2-7.6), so it is equally important to insure that the pH level is also constantly maintained.
No one wants to stand next to their pool all day year round adding small amounts of chemical to the water, so it is logical and important to have a device do it for you automatically. Automatic chemical dosing systems save a great deal of time and frequent handling of chemicals is avoided.
